Cinema Paradiso gives their top five cosmic films

Cosmic Pineapple at Pikes Ibiza will have an outdoor cinema experience at each event from Cinema Paradiso. Here they give their top five Cosmic films.

Cinema is our passion! We were very lucky to turn our hobby in to a career. Watching movies and staying up to date of what is coming out in cinema is now part of the job.

In the context of our screenings at the Cosmic Pineapple festival we thought of our top five Cosmic films, movies that explore inner and outer space. To name the exact top five favourite titles is too difficult but we still managed to put together five must see movies that will work well on the big screen.

  • District 9: An incredible What if plot. What if aliens would land on earth seeking asylum? Fantastic documentary style filmed sequence of events with a realistic original take on the ET genre.
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: This cult classic explores our minds, consciousness, pain, and love in an incredible mix of drama, fantasy and comedy, with great performances of Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet.

  • Le scaphandre et le papillon (The diving bell and the butterfly): The true story of Elle editor Jean-Dominique Bauby who suffers a stroke which paralyzes his whole body except for his left eye. Incredible film about a man who escapes his body through imagination and writes a book about it.
  • Gattica: This film covers a very interesting moral black hole. A young man wants to become an astronaut but DNA research prevents his space travel as he is deemed genetically inferior. The story explores the scenario of rating humans based on their genes. Something that appeared futuristic in 1997, but in 2016 is actually not that far away.
  • The Matrix: They should have left it with only part one.  The second and third part took away a bit of the shine of the first film. Its dark and twisted shows a lot but leaves plenty to your imagination.

There will be an outdoor cinema experience at 9pm each week for Cosmic Pineapple @ Pikes Ibiza – September 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd

*The 8th will be a big screen experience on the Pink Tennis courts
