Cosmix 30 – So. Sash

So. Sash brings us into her warm and ethereal electronic world of emotions for Cosmix 30.

I have been sitting on this for a few weeks and have finally gotten around to sharing So. Sash’s lovely Cosmix. Reading her interview, I also resonate strongly on many points. We are beginning to navigate a new way to ‘be’ in the world and are collectively approaching things from a deeper, more healing perspective. Dance music, when I started to listen to it, was this new language that resonated deeply on some level of my being. Then it became a lot about about escapism and hedonism, but as Sash quite rightly points out, it’s about freedom in the moment and a way to express our true selves through the magic of music. I can feel her energy through the music and words and it gives me inspiration for how we can move into the future and the power of music bringing us together.

I met Sash at Cosmic Pineapple at Pikes, she plays at some key underground venues in Ibiza, including Pikes for Cosmic (after moving to the island from Wales) and also has her own radio show (links at the bottom, along with the mix) and I am very happy she has shared this beautiful mix, made in Ibiza.

Where was it recorded?

The day I got back to Ibiza after having been away for a month, in my house, straight on the decks for this mix and poured my heart and soul into it.

How would you like for people to feel when they listen to the mix?

Like they have no cares in the world and can just be themselves and enjoy the moment – I try to select and mix the music in a way for people to completely let go no matter the genre; one can feel so alive and forget all their worries, which I think is part of a DJ’s job. To give them a moment of freedom.

How has music helped to sculpt and guide you in life?

It has given me understanding when the world has offered me none, which has been often. It has helped me understand others and has given me a language to communicate. I felt as I grew up I was speaking an entirely different language to everyone else. It took me many years to find my path and the right people for me, but living inside of sound has given me such strength and love where I had none and also shown me a way to give this to others.

Music is?

A feeling, an experience, a memory.. part of your soul.. literally transmuted into a physical entity – the most beautiful thing in the Universe to me. Us communicating from our consciousness into reality. From the other side of the veil into this place where our senses can experience it.

What does the word cosmic mean to you?

From a place amongst the stars – a remembrance of what we once were & how utterly brilliant life is.

Please can you give us a cosmic piece of art, quote or book that moves you?

Pretty much any quote by the prophet Rumi; his profound words have helped me through many a dark time. Here is one I resonated with as I have lost so much and many people along the way –

“Don’t grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.” And I have found it to be true; it’s really helped me toward freedom and to be less attached to the material world that anchors us down in so many ways. Helped me see life always gives you what you need and takes you where you need to go. To not worry.

What do you think is the role of the DJ in the modern world?

To hold a safe space for their audience, to help them heal, to be a catalyst for connections – we have a huge but reasonable responsibility as DJs to take care of ourselves so we can deliver them safely to the next moment in time; the profound connections and life lessons I have learnt from raving and then becoming a DJ and being on the other side of it, has shown me how seriously important music is to humanity. We are all made of sound, vibrations and what you give out to the crowd will influence them, their night, their conversations, how they are left feeling. You are caring for them and you are a Healer.

How can we make the world a better place?

From my experience -  learning patience.. how to breathe.. how to channel what you are into the outside world. We are here to keep the world turning but what you put out, 1. You get back and 2. Can disrupt other people’s lives, especially with so many of us here now. But we have not been taught from a young age what we are so I understand that is a difficult concept to grasp, I’m only just learning and I’m 28. We are here to teach and help one another though – really, I think by just accepting ourselves so we can accept each other – how utterly unique & beautiful we all are. To bring as much love into the world as you can.

Are there any causes you support that you would like to bring awareness?

Homelessness and how they are some of the kindest, most loving, generous people to exist yet so many look upon and treat them like they are dirt, when really we have so much to learn from these beautiful people. I’ve seen so much hate thrown at them – back home I have many friends who are homeless and spending time with them, people assume you are homeless too for some reason, as if they couldn’t possibly be friends with someone who isn’t homeless! I dedicated three months of my life last year before moving here to helping a woman on the run who was the bestest friend I’d ever had.. but our lives tore us apart.. her name was Tinkerbell weirdly enough (my name is Sash Pan) – I urge you if you are in jobs where you can help the homeless or even if you aren’t – to help find ways we can help these people restore their lives and offer only kindness to them – it is so strange how the angrier you are the more you are hurting – but it is a lesson to learn and accept in this world.

Your favourite cosmic website?

Cosmicpineapple.co.uk – filled with so much cosmic goodness for the soul. Not even just saying this, Kim’s articles have been extremely enlightening & offer much comfort, learning & peace.

Your star sign?

Leo – I was born on the 8th of the 8th at 8:08 weighing 8.8 pounds. Fire is my favourite element and I have always felt a fire in my belly like a dragon haha. My DJ name if I could choose now would be DragonFairy but I don’t think people would take me seriously. So Sash is ridiculous enough

A pineapple fact?

If you chop the top of the pineapple off and place it in the ground it will grow a teeny pineapple & then they take a year to grow I think ! I’m 90% sure this is true, I hope so. A wonderful concept even if not. They are also delicious & beautiful!

A music fact?

We all resonate at a frequency, many in our lifetime as we grow & become our True Selves (the fact) – so there is a machine and a practice – Bio-resonance that can find out what your frequency is – I wish to do this then to make a track of exactly my frequency, it would be so interesting & also if you could hear other people’s frequencies – I believe (I think this is also a fact) that this is why some people get on and others don’t and at different times of our lives we will get on with someone and then later or before we won’t; because our corresponding frequencies have changed. Bio-resonance is also used to discover illness, allergies and to emit your frequency in those areas to overpower and rid your body of these imbalances.
