How you can help the people of Syria

Since March 2011, the Middle Eastern country of Syria has been crippled by a Civil War. Released in the past week, horrific pictures of innocent dead children, washed up on the shore as they tried to escape, have sparked a call to wake up humanity to what is happening.

This report from the BBC gives an outline of what has been happening in Syria.

According to this feature on The Guardian, the dead were part of a grim toll of some 2,500 people who have died this summer attempting to cross the Mediterranean to Europe.

According to www.savethechildren.org

Since the beginning of the conflict, Syrian children have been the forgotten victims of the horrific war. Today, over 5 million children are in need of assistance, including over 1 million Syrian children who have sought refuge in neighboring countries. These children are at risk of becoming a “lost generation” and cannot be ignored. We must save Syria’s children.

It is utter craziness for this to be happening. We have to remember that we are all one and take some responsibility and try to send love and healing for this. Even if we can’t be there physically, there are ways to help, please see below for a few ideas and observations.

Ask questions:

Why is this happening, really? And what can we do individually and collectively?

Donate:

Here are a few charities:

Syria Relief

Save The Children

OXFAM

UNICEF

Taken from UNICEF site:

“Most of the children I have spoken with do not want to talk about their experiences with war. They are more interested in sharing their hopes for the future which always seems to include going back to school. Just the other day, I watched as a group of children from several different countries played together by pretending they were in a classroom. Even though they did not all speak the same language, they organized themselves into pretend teachers and students – sharing in the same pleasant daydream of just being a “normal” child.”

Spread the news on what is happening:

Make it into conscious awareness. Try to be a message of transformation. After a plea from Icelandic author, Bryndis Bjorgvinsdottir, the people of Iceland have stepped up and said they would offer to house Syrian refugees, check this piece on the Telegraph.

Austria and Germany are stepping up to support as packed trains of refugees arrive, check this on The Guardian.

Get Involved:

Check this insightful piece from a Human Rights Activist on how you can get hands on involved.

Do a local fundraiser:

Social networks are a great way to find out what is happening locally or nationally and to spread awareness. Get your community involved.

Send love and healing:

Sometimes this is all you can do, and in a way this can be one of the best things you can do. First acknowledge and feel the pain of the people of Syria, the land which they fight on, and then send compassion from your heart. Spend some time in prayer and meditation and ask for forgiveness, love and healing.

It may help to visualise the land and country, so you can expand your awareness to this. It’s quite mad that there is so much fighting in this part of the world.

Call in the energy of a Deity:

Like Isis. Oddly, Isis is actually the Egyptian Goddess of healing and protection. It’s quite interesting how the Islamic State group has her name representing them. Her name needs to be reclaimed for its true purpose, which is of magic, healing, fertility, protection and nurturing (especially for mothers and children). Check the previous Deity focus on Isis here. We need for the collective consciousness to be stronger in the knowing that Isis is for healing, to regain her true healing power.
