Cosmix 0.5 comes from Icelandic music legend, Hunk Of a Man.
Hunk Of a Man AKA Buckmaster de la Cruz AKA Herb Legowitz AKA (real name) Magnus Gudmundsson, is something of an Icelandic legend in Reykjavik and beyond. He was a founding member of T-World, who then became GusGus, and is the only member of the ever changing Icelandic collective who can boast to have been fired two times – and then let back in. With a crazily impressive knowledge and collection of all kinds of music, he is a regular DJ in all the Reykjavik hot spots.
He used to hug rocks when he was a child, begging the elves to let him in, they didn’t let him fully in to their world, but they did give him a luminous pink moustache, which he still wears proudly today, as a reminder of his elf connection. In his own words, the Cosmix 0.5 is “very disco-y” and it is awesome! Telling a story through music as a great music selector does!

Tell us about the mix?
After going in various circles regarding what I wanted to lay down, there appeared a few tracks that I felt passionate about and then it became just a matter of dressing it in the right ‘clothes’. At first I was going to include more instrumental music, more free-jazz and more open ended, but once I’d decided on a couple of tracks, it shifted to this vocal soul thing…
How would you like for people to feel when they hear this music?
I’m a big lyric person, and most of these songs have to do with love, but that doesn’t mean you have to listen to them literally. You can apply the lyrics almost any way that you want, to yourself or your mum or anybody… and of course I’d like people to move.

How has music helped to sculpt and guide you in life?
It’s been all encompassing(?)
What does the word ‘cosmic’ mean to you?
The all encompassing universe. The whole thing not just how we perceive it (with our various lenses).
What do you think is the role of the DJ in the modern world?
That’s a tough one. I’d like them to both provide a mirror and an escape. Take people on a journey. Support your local DJ. If you translate the old 70’s Icelandic word for DJ it would be Discotechist. But DJs seem to be moving away from sweaty basements and into the corporate realm. Dunno what I think about that. Maybe it’s better than the old link with other creatures of the night like pimps and whores… But I dunno.
