Cosmix 0.9 – Boris Werner

Cosmix 0.9 comes from Boris Werner – “In my head this would be the perfect soundtrack for a road trip, feeling free of worries and other daily thoughts that will cross your mind.”

Boris Werner is a man of good vibes. Alongside his Dutch DJ friend-family William Kouam Djoko, Tom Trago and San Proper, whose manners and music collections both effect and inspire, he knows how to ensure a dance-floor has fun through the magic of music. Famed for his long DJ-sets, which urban rave legend tells can reach up to 22 hours, Werner plays all kinds of music, leaving the dancer never knowing what to expect, yet always enjoying the ride.

For the Cosmix 0.9 mix, Werner delved into his record collection and created a collage of music styles – from Aphex Twin to Zapp to Arthur Russell to William Oneyeabor to Madlib – perfect to let your mind go and see where the music takes you.

Check below for his  Cosmix and Cosmic Pineapple interview.

Cosmix interview: Boris Werner

Tell us about the mix
It’s a collage of music which I hold really nice memories of from over the years that I thought would fit the Cosmic Pineapple legacy.

How did you approach making it?
I recorded most of the tracks I needed from vinyl and later on puzzled it together in Ableton and added some bits and bobs.

How would you like for people to feel when they hear this music?
In my head this would be the perfect soundtrack for a road trip, feeling free of worries and other daily thoughts that will cross your mind inevitably.

Music is?
A gift

How has music helped to sculpt and guide you in life?
Before I really got into music I kinda was lost, meaning that I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, music in that way really helped me to get on the right track and find something I was actually good at.

What does the word ‘cosmic’ mean to you?
Spiritual infinity

Please can you recommend a book that inspires you:
I’m just starting to read the book ‘Hold On To Your Dreams’ by Tim Lawrence, it’s a biography about Arthur Russell, an artist that really inspired me over the last years.

What do you think is the role of the DJ in the modern world?
For me the role of a DJ should simply be: Entertaining the crowd with a bit of education and just give the people a good night to remember, nothing more nothing less…

How can we make the world a better place?
Less talking, more dancing

Your favourite cosmic website?
I actually don’t have one

Your starsign?
Taurus

A pineapple fact?
I recently heard you have wine made out of pineapple?!?!

A music fact?
It’s addictive, better watch out!
