A new way of living – radically sustainable buildings.
“. . . the Earthship is the epitome of sustainable design and construction. No part of sustainable living has been ignored in this ingenious building.”
One very common thought process towards sustainability and healing of the Earth is ‘I won’t make any difference”. Which is incorrect. We can all make a difference, slowly but surely.
Achieving sustainability will enable the Earth to continue supporting human life.
We may not see a drastic difference in our lifetime, but think for generations to come – for our own generations to come. My thought also is that, if we continue to live on Earth the way we do, Earth will get really pissed off and start setting things in order and things will get pretty dark.
We need to connect to and nourish the Earth that supports us as much as possible.
I was recently turned on to the Earthships. Wow! They are made from around 45% recycled materials and the aim is that you have no electricity or heating bills, with the slogan being: “We must become more aware of our energy sources.” Earthships catch water from the sky for you to consume, have their own sewage treatment system and can maintain comfortable temperatures in any climate.
I think this is the closest (at the moment) the western world can get to living in a hobbit house.
